Walking in Cornwall and Exploring the Local Countryside

Treworgie Barton self catering holiday cottages are located within easy reach of some stunning North Cornwall Heritage Coast footpaths, much of which are within areas of outstanding natural beauty. Whether you are a hardened walker or just looking for a leisurely stroll, there are walks appropriate for all.

Crackington Haven
Crackington Haven, the local Beach is just two miles down the road – a wonderful bay surrounded by some lovely scenery and 400ft cliffs.

Bude
There is a nice stroll from the car park along the canal to breakwater and up to Compass Point, a hexagonal tower on the cliff edge to the left of the Canal.

Clovelly
Clovelly is a quaint fishing village, with steep cobbled streets leading to the port. Certainly worth a visit, however not for the faint hearted!

Roughtor
The Cheesewring and Hurlers on Bodmin moor is a natural phenomenon, and well worth the walk.

Places and Properties of Interest

The valley going inland looks towards Week St Mary, and on a clear day Dartmoor can be seen in the distance. Towards the sea, you are looking down the Millook Valley towards Bude. Beyond, the Satellite Station at Morwenstow is usually clearly visible, this station is one of the main listening posts for the UK.

St Gennys Church
The Parish Church dates back to XIIth Century and is certainly worth a visit, especially the view from the graveyard at the back of the church.

Millook
A totally un-commercialised stony and rocky beach down the valley with fascinating rock features. The rocks were formed during the Devonian Period, circa 300 million years ago. There is an interesting costal drive to and from Millook and limited parking on the road.

Beaches on the North Cornwall Coastline

North Cornwall has some of the best beaches in the UK and many of these are within a short drive of Treworgie Barton holiday cottages.

Summerleaze Beach
The closest beach to Bude town centre with level access from Summerleaze car park. At low tide you can explore Bude's famous Breakwater, with "Tommy's Pit" and the landmark of
Barrel Rock.

Crooklets Beach
This beach is also close to Bude's town centre. Crooklets often provides ideal conditions for surfing and there are regular surfing and life-saving demonstrations throughout the year.

Widemouth Bay
A great family beach with over 2 miles of open sand at low tide, and a popular venue for surfers providing spectacular waves. Buried beneath the beach is the Trans-Atlantic "hotline" cable directly linking Downing Street to the White House.

Crackington Haven
This lovely cove, flanked by fascinating 430 ft cliffs, is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer. The sizeable area of sand is bordered by low reefs and often provides numerous little rock pools to explore.

The main beaches have full lifeguard cover during the peak season and have flags to indicate safe swimming and surfing areas. Dog bans operate at Crooklets, Crackington Haven and the north beach at Widemouth from Easter to 1st October.

Cornish Fishing Ports and Villages

North Cornwall boasts a variety of beautiful villages and fishing ports that must be visited. All are within easy reach of Treworgie Barton holiday cottages.

Bude
Just nine miles away from the cottages, Bude offers supermarkets, restaurants, horse riding, Splash leisure pool and a sports hall. A unique little town that once discovered is rarely forgotten. Bude has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere with a number of shops, cafes and pubs waiting to be discovered. Bude also provides an excellent centre for walking and cycling.

Boscastle
Delightfully pretty little Cornish fishing village full of character, with a narrow harbour entrance straddled by imposing cliffs. Boscastle is owned by the National Trust and should be on everyone's "must visit" itinerary. It is only a short drive from Treworgie Barton holiday cottages in Cornwall.

Tintagel
Also close to Treworgie Barton holiday cottages, Tintagel is one of the best known places in Cornwall. It is the legendary birthplace of King Arthur and the Arthurian legend. The dramatic castle ruins, sword in the stone and Round Table capture the imagination.

Lundy Island
Lundy is a remote, tranquil island 3 miles long and half a mile wide lying some 11 miles off the North Devon coast. It is a place of outstanding natural beauty with skies full of birds, seas teaming with friendly grey seals, basking sharks and a wealth of marine flora and fauna. The island is accessible all year round by the MS Oldenburg. Tickets can be purchased from Bude visitor centre for sailings from Bideford.

Within easy reach of our Cornish self catering cottages there are a host of other interesting fishing villages such as Padstow, Port Isaac and Clovelly.
